These two resources were inspired by my late son Angus, who was at a Level 3 Autism, previously known as PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developmental Delay Not Otherwise Specified). He was also diagnosed with Global Developmental Delays including Gross Motor and Fine Motor Delays. He had Hypotonia (low muscle tone) and Speech Apraxia and other learning disabilities or challenges which were left undiagnosed. When he passed away in 2023 at the age of 20, he was finally diagnosed with a Mitochondria Disease which had been first sought out by doctors when he was 3 years old. These resources complimented the natural medicines and many types of therapies and diets which made a positive difference in his life. These resources have been shared with parents in 4 countries so far and I want to reach more families who could benefit from them.
I am READY to Learn
I am READY to Learn was born out of frustration of our school system which was not teaching my son more than his name. It is the type of program that starts with the basics of learning and can be branched out to higher level in a way to increment or baby step learning that builds on what is there. Angus was nonverbal and became functionally verbal and he was able to read after learning and working using this document.
iPad Proloquo2go
Proloquo2go is an App for the iPad and it is about $350 to purchase, 2025. Buttons can be set up to say words or phrases. We used this to give our son the opportunity to hear things over again at his will. It taught us what he was interested in and helped us expose him to other higher learning like math, building sentences and social cues. This App is an AAC, Augmentative and Alternative Communication Device. Angus used it to practice and to hear the words and phrases so he could speak more words himself. We tried PECS, Picture Exchange Communication System, prior to Proloquo2go. He made it very clear that he wanted to speak, so we followed his lead.
